Der Erlangen Cricket Club (ECC) verzeichnet seit Jahren einen starken Zulauf und zählt mittlerweile über 45 aktive Mitglieder. Als einer der wichtigsten Cricket-Standorte in Nordbayern trägt er wesentlich zur Vielfalt der Erlanger Sportlandschaft bei. Gleichzeitig steht Cricket mit der Aufnahme ins Programm der Olympischen Spiele ab 2028 vor einem deutlichen Bedeutungs- und Wachstumsschub.
Trotz dieser positiven Entwicklung stehen dem ECC im Wiesengrund derzeit nicht ausreichend Trainingszeiten zur Verfügung. Aktuell findet das Training lediglich an einem Werktag statt, während Punktspiele sowohl samstags als auch sonntags stattfinden. Eine solche Struktur lässt keine angemessene Vorbereitung zu und wird dem tatsächlichen Nutzungsbedarf des Vereins nicht gerecht.
Vor diesem Hintergrund und mit Blick auf die wachsende Bedeutung der Sportart halten wir eine Anpassung an die tatsächlichen Bedürfnisse des Vereins für notwendig und zeitgemäß.
Wir beauftragen die Verwaltung daher:
- Dem ECC zwei Trainingstage pro Woche im Wiesengrund zur Verfügung zu stellen.
- Den ECC aktiv in die Abstimmung einzubeziehen, um sicherzustellen, dass sowohl ein reibungsloser Trainings- als auch Spielbetrieb ermöglicht werden kann.
Um den Anforderungen des ECC gerecht zu werden, soll die verwaltungsseitige Abstimmung hierzu möglichst bis zum Beginn des kommenden regulären Saisonbetriebs vollzogen werden.
Für die längerfristige Planungssicherheit des Vereins beantragen wir außerdem in weiteren Schritten:
- Die Verwaltung erarbeitet, wie dem ECC ein gesicherter Abstell- bzw. Lagerraum für Trainings- und Spielmaterial zur Verfügung gestellt werden kann.
- Die Verwaltung prüft eine Lösung für mobile oder feste Sanitäranlagen und legt entsprechende Varianten zur Umsetzung vor.
- Die Verwaltung stellt eine Perspektive für die nachhaltige Nutzbarkeit des Cricketplatzes sicher, insbesondere durch Klärung der Flächenverfügbarkeit und möglicher Anpassungen im Rahmen bestehender Nutzungsregelungen im Wiesengrund.
Begründung
Cricket ist eine der am schnellsten wachsenden Sportarten in Erlangen und gewinnt insbesondere durch seine Verbreitung in Staaten des ehemaligen und heutigen Commonwealth und damit der in Erlangen stark vertretenen indischen Community zunehmend an Bedeutung. Die Stadt Erlangen profitiert in hohem Maße davon, dass der ECC seit Jahren Integrationsarbeit, Jugendarbeit und internationale Begegnung fördert. Damit diese erfolgreiche Arbeit fortgeführt werden kann, benötigt der Verein Trainingskapazitäten, die dem tatsächlichen Bedarf entsprechen.
The Erlangen Cricket Club (ECC) has experienced strong growth for several years and now counts more than 45 active members. As one of the most important cricket locations in Northern Bavaria, the club contributes significantly to the diversity of Erlangen’s sports landscape. Meanwhile, cricket is facing a considerable increase in significance and visibility due to its inclusion in the Olympic Games from 2028 onwards.
Despite this positive development, the ECC currently does not have sufficient training hours available at the Wiesengrund grounds. Currently, training takes place on only one weekday, while league matches are held on both Saturdays and Sundays. This structure does not allow for adequate preparation and does not reflect the club’s actual training needs.
Given these circumstances and glimpse to the growing importance of the sport, an adjustment to the club’s actual needs is both necessary and appropriate.
We therefore request that the administration of the city of Erlangen:
- provide the ECC with two weekly training days at the Wiesengrund grounds.
- the active inclusion of the ECC in further administrative discussions to ensure that both training and match operations can be fully supported.
In order to address the ECC’s requirements, the administrative coordination should be finalized before the start of the upcoming regular season.
For the long-term perspective of the club, we furthermore request:
- The city administration will examine how a secure storage area can be made available to the ECC for training and match equipment.
- The city administration will review possible solutions for mobile or permanent sanitary facilities, including corresponding implementation options.
- The city administration will ensure a clear perspective for the long-term usability and availability of the cricket grounds, including potential adjustments to existing usage regulations in the Wiesengrund.
Justification
Cricket is one of the fastest-growing sports in Erlangen and is gaining importance particularly due to its widespread popularity in countries of the former and current Commonwealth, and thus also within Erlangen’s strongly represented Indian community. The City of Erlangen benefits significantly from the ECC’s longstanding contributions to integration, youth development, and international exchange. In order to pursue this success story, the club requires training capacities that correspond to the actual demand.
